The project focused on supporting smallholder farmers to adopt improved varieties and management practices, thereby increasing productivity, household incomes, and food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Purpose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative sought to build a resilient potato innovation system by improving farmer access to climate\u2011smart technologies, enhancing the capacity of national research institutions, and establishing a sustainable seed production and distribution network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Outputs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Improved varieties<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Development and local supply of disease\u2011resistant, climate\u2011adapted potato varieties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Seed production efficiency<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Strengthened early generation seed production systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacity building<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Enhanced technical skills of farmer seed grower cooperatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technology validation<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Proven methods scaled to resource\u2011poor smallholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gender inclusion<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Mainstreamed approaches ensuring equitable access to knowledge and technology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Partnerships<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Improved coordination among research institutions, policymakers, private sector actors, and NGOs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conference Objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closing event provided a platform to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Share achievements against project targets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present lessons learned and highlight areas for improvement in future interventions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen collaboration among stakeholders in Ethiopia\u2019s potato sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fulfill partner requirements for final feedback before project closure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delegates included experts from agricultural research, seed regulation, policy, extension services, private seed producers, NGOs, and potato processing companies. Representatives came from <strong>Amhara, Oromia, and SNNP regions<\/strong>, covering 13 districts and 80 kebeles. The project directly reached around <strong>40,000 smallholder farmers<\/strong> with improved seed and production technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference reaffirmed the importance of continued investment in potato research, innovation, and seed systems.
